The impact of COVID-19 on financial aid professionals webinar recording available

Financial aid office productivity increased during the pandemic - despite and probably because of working from home in recent months.

A panel of financial aid professionals agreed yesterday that, although there were some challenges to working from home, they found that they were able to process more financial aid during the pandemic.

Mapping Your Future hosted a conversation Tuesday among financial aid professionals in which we explored the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on financial aid offices and how they are addressing their concerns. This timely webinar, which featured Amy Staffier from Simmons University, David Martin from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Lisanne Masterson from Blue Ridge Community College, and Sarah Baumhoff from Kennesaw State University, summarized the results of the recent Mapping Your Future survey and one state's survey on the impact of the pandemic on financial aid offices.

The panelists agreed that productivity may have increased because some staff had less distractions at home, students were not able to stop in the office, and some staff found it hard to stop working when at home. Although productivity increased, many of the panelists said they missed working and seeing other staff and interacting with students. In addition, they felt it was important for staff to stop working at the end of the day, recommending financial aid professionals replace their former work commute with a daily walk.
