Mapping Your Future announces the appointment of Leanne Cardwell, assistant commissioner of Missouri Student Loan Program of Missouri Department of Higher Education, to the Mapping Your Future Board of Directors.

“Being appointed to Mapping Your Future’s Board of Directors provides me with the opportunity to contribute to a valuable organization,” said Leanne Cardwell. “Mapping Your Future’s focus on helping students get to and through college while making smart financial choices is closely aligned with the goals of the Missouri Department of Higher Education and is vital as our country works to build a more educated citizenry.”

Ms. Cardwell has been with the Missouri Department of Higher Education for more than 16 years and is the assistant commissioner for the Missouri Student Loan Program.  As such, she is responsible for overseeing the MSLP, which is Missouri’s state-designated guaranty agency for the Federal Family Education Loan Program.  In addition to administering the FFEL Program in Missouri, the MSLP assists postsecondary institutions and high schools with financial literacy efforts, informs Missouri families about how to plan for and pay for college, and manages a state-based Default Prevention Grant Program.

Ms. Cardwell attended Drury University and Lincoln University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant.   Before joining MDHE, she did audit work through a contract with the state of Tennessee.

“Leanne’s background and experience will serve as an asset to the Board of Directors,” said Melanie Amrhein, chair of the Mapping Your Future Board of Directors and executive director of the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance.

Other board members include Steven Brooks, executive director of the North Carolina State Education Student Loan Authority; Gene Hutchins, chief financial officer of New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority; and Tim Connell, president of the Georgia Student Finance Commission.
