Soft launch of FAFSA has some rough spots

January 18, 2024

The 2024-25 FAFSA is now available, and while it will eventually be easier for many to complete, some students and parents have encountered errors or faced a roadblock.

The U.S. Department of Education released the 2024-25 FAFSA in what was referred to as a soft launch, limiting the hours the form was available and restricting the number of people who could complete the online form at one time.

Since the initial launch, the form is now more widely available, and while some applicants can successfully complete the form, other applicants are still encountering problems.

There are variety of issues reported, but, in general, applicants may want to try the following if they encounter an error:

  • Exit the form, clear history, close the browser, restart the browser, and try re-entering the form.
  • Try entering the form using a different browser.
  • Exit the form and try again later.

More insight and tips are listed in the new Mapping Your Future The 2024-25 FAFSA - Tips for dealing with some of the more common issues flyer.

The Department of Education has reported that it is working on addressing the errors with the form. Applicants can use the online chat or call 1-800-4-FEDAID for assistance but may have long wait times.

Let us know if you have any questions and what other tips you would add to the flyer.
