Students enriched with a state-of-the-art education offered in a rural setting at Plymouth State University

Nestled in between heavily-forested mountains, serene lakes, and gentle rivers, Plymouth State University is as much a part of the New Hampshire landscape as the environment that surrounds it.

Like the environment, Plymouth State University is constantly changing. Founded in 1871, the institution has evolved from a normal school to a teachers' college to a state college and in 2003 to a state university. Plymouth State preserves the brick-and-ivy look of its New England small-college heritage while integrating state-of-the-art technology and facilities into an attractive, contemporary campus design with 46 buildings covering 170 acres.

With the White Mountains to the north, the Lakes Region to the south, and the Pemigewasset River bordering the town to the east, Plymouth, New Hampshire, is surrounded by some of the country's most beautiful and accessible natural landscape. Plymouth is less than a two hour drive from Boston on Interstate 93. Two hours to the east is Portland, Maine; two hours northwest is Burlington, Vermont; and three-and-a-half hours northwest is Montreal, Canada.

Plymouth State University is a coeducational, residential university with an enrollment of approximately 4,300 undergraduate students and 3,000 graduate students.

"Students come to Plymouth State for its academic majors that prepare them for careers, the supportive campus community, Main Street New England setting, and easy access to New Hampshire's great outdoors," said Jim Hundrieser, Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.

One of the ways that the University demonstrates its concern for students is through its work to educate students about the importance of minimizing student loan debt.

"Mapping Your Future has assisted us by providing a tool for financial literacy counseling for our students that have been identified as having a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) issue," said Crystal Gaff, Director of Financial Aid. "In addition, we use the Perkins Entrance Counseling tool to ensure our Federal Perkins Loan borrowers are getting off on the right foot."
