The Department of Education recently implemented new cybersecurity measures that require schools to provide a list of institutional IP addresses in order to have access to Federal Student Aid (FSA) systems and websites. The IP address is the unique identifier of a computer or computers on a network.

According to a July 17 Electronic Announcement, the Department said the new cybersecurity measures resulted in some authorized users being temporarily blocked from accessing FSA systems and websites.

To assist in the effort, the Department is requesting that each institution send the following information to FSASchoolCyberSafety@ed.gov by August 1, 2019:

  • Name of Institution
  • Address of Institution
  • Office of Postsecondary Education Identifier (OPEID)
  • List or Range of IP Addresses Used by Institution
  • Information Technology (IT) Contact at Institution (Name, Email, Phone Number)

For answers to any questions, send an email to information to FSASchoolCyberSafety@ed.gov.
