There for you |

We've relied on the kindness of these loyal companions for thousands of years. So, when one of them needed our help the other day, rescuers responded. Sammy, described as a big fluffy dog, fell in a hole earlier this week while in his Montgomery County, Maryland backyard. The hole was not one created by his own digging (in case you were wondering), but rather a construction hole about 7 feet deep. By the time Sammy was found and rescuers arrived, he had been in the hole for an hour. Montgomery County fire and rescue workers then took about 25 minutes to shore up the walls of the hole and dig another hole nearby in order to retrieve Sammy. In a picture taken after the rescue, Sammy, with flecks of mud on his fur and a some brown dirt on his nose, looked a little stunned but grateful for his friends who saved him. No doubt the rescue meant a lot to Sammy and his family. And also, to the rest of us – so grateful for our own faithful companions – ready to repay the kindness but hoping it's never needed. – By Catherine Mueller | ||||||||||||||||
