Making sure the Department of Education has the right address

It’s time to check the Department of Education’s address book to make sure your institution’s information is up to date.

The Department of Education recently announced availability of the updated 2023–24 Federal School Code (FSC) List of Participating Schools, which contains the unique codes for schools participating in the Title IV federal student aid programs.

Students can use the codes on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form to indicate which postsecondary schools will receive the processed application results.

In an April 27 Electronic Announcement, the Department said institutions should make sure that school name and address information is current. To update the information, institutions must submit an “Update” application through the Electronic Application for Approval to Participate in the Federal Student Financial Aid Programs (E-App), located at https://eligcert.ed.gov. This information submitted on the updated application will then be used to update the Federal School Code List of Participating Schools.

Institutions wanting to customize how  the school’s name or address appears in the Federal School Code List of Participating School can do so on the E-App website. Click on “Update your Federal School Code Information which is used by the FAFSA” on the left side of the page under the “Other Features” section and provide the custom information.

For assistance, contact the Federal Student Aid School Participation Division for your state. Information about the School Participation Division can be found on the E-App website home page.
