Change is coming

I know that about half the country is going to be very happy next week and the other half will be very upset.

Personally, I'm just kind of glad to see it end – I'm so ready for Daylight Savings Time to be over.

There, I said it. I am in the group of people who look forward to Standard Time. It's not that I'm unsympathetic to those of you who like Daylight Savings Time or DST.

I've heard the complaints about Standard Time – about leaving work in the dark and driving home in the dark and if it weren't for the weekends, you'd never seen the outside of your house in the daylight. Believe me, I understand – well, sort of.

Why am I so unabashed in my support for the change to Standard Time? Two reasons:

  • The light of day gets here earlier. And for anyone who's tried to get family members out of the house and to work and school on time, you know we can use all the help nature can provide.
  • There is an extra hour this weekend! Oh, glorious weekend! Even if you're a solid supporter of DST, you have to admit that an extra hour of sleep or play is a good thing.

But no matter how we feel about it, change is coming. Just don't forget to set your clock back an hour on Saturday night, and let's all just be happy this weekend.
